Teleradiology companies provide remote radiology reporting services, enabling timely interpretation of medical images outside the physical boundaries of NHS hospitals. These services are increasingly vital in supporting the NHS with workforce pressures, reducing reporting backlogs, and improving access to diagnostics across regions and timeframes.
As demand grows and expectations evolve, it is more important than ever for teleradiology providers to come together to share insight, address common challenges, and shape consistent, high-quality standards across the sector.
The AXREM Teleradiology Working Group offers a neutral, member-led platform to do just that. The group is currently focused on several key priorities:
- Tender Process Reform: Working with NHS Supply Chain to simplify and streamline procurement processes.
- Improving Perception: Promoting the clinical value of teleradiology and its role in supporting NHS staff and patient care.
• Responsible Use of AI: Encouraging thoughtful, relevant use of AI in procurement and service delivery.
• Collaboration with RCR: Engaging with the Royal College of Radiologists on data, quality, and advocacy initiatives.
• Exploring Digital Platforms: Assessing tools like Medtech Compass to support visibility and comparison of teleradiology services.
Why Teleradiology Matters
Teleradiology is a clinically led, technology-enabled solution that helps the NHS deliver timely, high-quality diagnostic reporting. It supports:
- Reduced Waiting Times: Faster turnaround of imaging reports, especially during evenings, weekends, and peak demand.
- Workforce Support: Flexible capacity to help manage staff shortages and reduce burnout.
- Operational Efficiency: Improved service resilience and smarter use of resources.
- Better Patient Outcomes: Timely diagnosis and treatment planning, regardless of geography.
Teleradiology is not a substitute for NHS radiology teams, it is a strategic partner in delivering safe, effective, and equitable care.
