Artificial Intelligence (AI) Special Focus Group

The AI SFG is one of the newer groups that we run and was established in 2020. We have become very representative of AI in the radiology and radiotherapy space and now have most of the main market leaders in this field.

The group now well established is working on several different workstreams, including:

  • Raising the challenges of the NHS adopting new AI technologies
  • What AI will look like with new MHRA regulations
  • How AI can be up-scaled in the NHS helping to create efficiencies and ultimately helping with the workforce crisis.
  • DPIA & DTAC criteria and forms

The group engage with key external stakeholders including:

  • NHS England
  • NICE
  • MHRA

At our inaugural meeting in November 2020 we welcomed Lord Clement-Jones who was made CBE for political services in 1988 and a life peer in 1998. He is the current House of Lords Liberal Democrat spokesman for  and the former Chair of the House of Lords Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence (2017-18) and Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on AI.  He is a founder member of the OECD Parliamentary Group on AI and a member of the Council of Europe’s Ad-hoc Committee on AI (CAHAI).

Lord Clement-Jones provided AXREM members with an overview of the work being done by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for AI. This overview helped the group establish what the focus and priorities of work streams should be and how AXREM can ensure the views of members are represented within the health sector.
