Welcome to the Digital Pathology Special Focus Group (SFG) page. This group has been formed to address the unique challenges and opportunities within this rapidly evolving field.
What is Digital Pathology?
Digital pathology is transforming the way pathology services are delivered. By digitising glass slides into high-resolution images and integrating advanced imaging, AI and data analysis tools, digital pathology is enabling more efficient workflows, enhanced diagnostics and improved patient outcomes.
Our Purpose
The Digital Pathology SFG has been created to unite industry experts, foster collaboration, and address key issues in this exciting area of healthcare innovation. We aim to:
- Advocate for industry standards: Ensure interoperability, standardisation and best practices across the NHS and healthcare providers.
- Support adoption: Help bridge the gap between technology and clinical implementation, promoting the uptake of digital pathology across the UK.
- Influence policy: Work with government bodies, policymakers and NHS Trusts to create an environment that supports innovation and efficiency.
- Share expertise: Provide a platform for members to exchange knowledge, discuss challenges and celebrate successes in digital pathology.
AXREM has published a Digital Pathology Manifesto
AXREM’s Digital Pathology Manifesto sets out a clear vision for accelerating the adoption of Digital Pathology across the NHS. While the technology is proven and already in use in parts of the system, progress remains uneven due to infrastructure limitations, lack of interoperability, workforce pressures and inconsistent access to training and funding.
The manifesto calls for coordinated national action to support investment in digital infrastructure, establish clear standards for interoperability and image quality, embed Digital Pathology into training and professional development, and ensure sustainable funding models that enable long term adoption.
