AXREM Launch New Special Focus Group

AXREM is the UK trade association representing the interests of suppliers of diagnostic medical imaging, radiotherapy, healthcare IT and care equipment in the UK.

At the end of last year AXREM were approached by several companies working in the patient monitoring sector, to see if the association could represent their sector. It was felt that that there isn’t a specific focus group in any of the MedTech trade association that represent their interests. The idea was approved by the AXREM Executive Committee in December, and we are proud to announce this has now been set up, and we officially launch this group today.

Patient monitoring is the observation of a patient’s vital sign measurements over a period of time. It is usually performed by continually measuring certain medical parameters, including, but not limited to:

• Heart Rate (HR)
• Blood Pressure (BP)
• Oxygen Levels (SpO2)
• Respiration Rate (RR)
• ECG Readout
• Respiratory Waveform
• CO2 monitoring
• Invasive Blood Pressure
• Temperature
• BIS, NMT, Anaesthetic Gas, Cardiac Output and more.

Patient monitoring devices are increasingly compatible with electronic patient records and have interoperability with other devices to provide clinicians with a complete patient view.

The first Patient Monitoring Special Focus Group meeting is taking place on 27th February at the AXREM offices in London, and we have already recruited new members to the association from companies working in this space, as well as those companies we already have in membership. AXREM has already engaged with NHS Supply Chain who will be attending the first meeting and have been supportive of this development.

Sally Edgington, AXREM Director said “This is an exciting development for AXREM, and a natural progression of the areas we cover in diagnostics. As an association we have worked hard over the last 4 years to widen our member offering and diversify the areas we present, it is testament to this work that the patient monitoring companies felt that we are the right trade association for them, able to offer an industry voice, member benefits and value for money. I will look forward to working with patient monitoring companies in developing their voice, ensuring they are well represented in the right forums and meetings, and developing different work streams”.

Jeevan Gunaratnam, AXREM Chair said of the development “I am delighted to welcome our new members into the AXREM family. Patient monitoring integrates across end-to-end care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. By creating opportunities for industry to co-operate with care providers and align across diagnostic and therapeutic pathways, we look forward to raising the profile of this important sector.
