28 January 2025
AXREM is pleased to announce that Huw Shurmer, Strategic and Government Relationship Manager at Fujifilm Healthcare UK, has now taken up the role as AXREM Chair, following the completion of a year as Vice chair.
This change is following Jeevan Gunaratnam’s successful completion of a two year term as Chair, and Jeevan will now support Huw for a further year as Vice Chair.
Huw Shurmer will lead the AXREM Executive Committee, chairing meetings and representing the association at the National Imaging Board and other high level external meetings. Huw will also work closely with AXREM Chief Executive officer, Sally Edgington on government relation work and ensure that AXREM’s position is elevated and that government ministers and Members of Parliament have good awareness of AXREM and our work.
There will also be a focus on the associations strategic priorities which were published in September and Huw Shurmer will be instrumental in ensuring AXREM delivers on these, which include: Patient safety first and foremost,
Technology to Influence Patient Outcomes, Aligning with NHS Priorities – Reducing waiting times, Early Diagnosis, Efficient treatments & workflow, Influencing future healthcare, Increasing our visibility and government engagement – to help Government shape policies to deliver the best healthcare, Delivering a Sustainable Future and Working together to secure against and respond to Cyber Attacks. There will be many work streams supporting the strategic priorities over the next 2 years.
Huw Shurmer said upon taking up the role as Chair “It’s clear to see how much AXREM has grown and is continuing to, with the aim to become the main voice of the medical imaging industry. I am very proud to have the opportunity to represent all our members and assist the health service in delivering safe, innovative, modern solutions at a time when the service is under a lot of pressure”.
Sally Edgington, Chief Executive Officer said “I am looking forward to working closely with Huw Shurmer over the next two years to see how we can further enhance the work of AXREM and ensure that we are fully representative of our industry. The work Jeevan Gunaratnam has done over the last two years, has left Huw with a trade association in excellent order and a solid foundation for further growth and development”.
