AXREM Host Strategy Afternoon to Decide on Key Priorities
10 December 2021
AXREM is the UK trade association representing the interests of suppliers of diagnostic medical imaging, radiotherapy, healthcare IT and care equipment in the UK. Over the last 2 years we have seen significant growth in our membership and raised our profile further enabling us to be the voice of the diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy industry.
The industry has experienced challenges following the pandemic which like many other has also affected our ability to meet in person. To ensure the association remains focused on key areas of work Sally Edgington, Director of AXREM brought the Executive Committee together in London to look back at the association’s activities for the last two years, and to explore and decide on the key priorities and focuses for the next 18 months to 2 years.
AXREM Executive Committee members are the senior leaders of member companies and 96% of the Executive Committee companies were in attendance for the strategy afternoon. Ila Dobson, AXREM Chair kicked off proceedings by welcoming everyone to the meeting and thanking them for their continued support and work for the association. Ila then handed over to Sally Edgington who facilitated the day.
We started by looking back at AXREM activities over the last two years which included the creation of an Artificial Intelligence Special Focus Group, increased activity on social media seeing a growth in the last 12 months on LinkedIn of 360%, growth of 36% in membership over the last 12 months, the creation of an AXREM YouTube Channel, the launch of an AXREM App, Supporting members though Brexit and COVID including running a successful campaign to ensure industry staff visiting hospitals were prioritised for vaccines and the launch of a Radiotherapy manifesto.
The Executive Committee participated in a task where they thought about words that would best describe AXREM and broke into groups to discuss what they feel the key priorities should be moving forwards. The afternoon concluded with the association now having 3 key priorities which we look forward to sharing with you in 2022 and the associated activities for each of these in due course.
The day ended with a dinner for the Executive Committee at the House of Lords which was hosted by The Lord Storey CBE, who spoke with members about his interest in AXREM’s Radiotherapy Manifesto, so much so that he expressed his desire to prepare some written questions about the issues relating to radiotherapy and cancer treatment.
Charlie McCaffrey, AXREM Vice chair delivered an after-dinner speech where he thanked the Executive Committee for their support and dedication, pointing out that they all have full time jobs and support AXREM on a voluntary basis, he also passed thanks to the Special Focus Group Convenors who have all been proactive and provided the Executive Committee with engaging insights to the different groups work.
Sally Edgington, AXREM Director said “The strategy afternoon was a great opportunity to provide members with a platform to decide on key priorities moving forwards, it also offered members a networking opportunity which has been missed by many during the pandemic. The day was topped off with a fabulous dinner and engaging conversations, and I am sure the Executive Committee will agree that a good and productive day was had by all”.
