AXREM Facilitates Key MP Visit to Canon Medical Systems and Canon Park Community Arena
20 August 2025
AXREM was proud to facilitate visits by two influential Members of Parliament in the last week, the first being Peter Lamb, MP for Crawley, and Clive Betts, MP for Sheffield South East to Canon Medical Systems’ UK headquarters in Crawley and the Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield, also home to the LivingCare Diagnostic Centre.
The visit provided a vital opportunity to showcase the transformative role of industry in supporting NHS imaging services, while also highlighting the community impact of Canon’s innovative partnerships. Discussions centred on the age profile of imaging equipment across the NHS, the government’s pledge to double scanner capacity, and the critical role industry must play in delivering on this ambition, particularly in the context of the NHS Long Term Plan.
At Canon Medical’s Crawley office, the MP engaged with senior leaders on the importance of modernising diagnostic infrastructure and the need for sustained investment in cutting-edge technology. The conversation underscored the urgency of replacing outdated equipment to ensure equitable access to timely diagnosis and improved patient outcomes.
In Sheffield, the visit to the Canon Medical Arena and LivingCare Diagnostic Centre illustrated how industry led initiatives can deliver real world benefits. The MP saw first hand how diagnostic services embedded in community settings can reduce waiting times, improve accessibility, and support workforce wellbeing.
Both MPs committed to raising Parliamentary Questions to further the dialogue around imaging capacity, equipment age, and equitable access. They also took away local issues raised during the visits, pledging to explore these further and advocate for solutions that reflect the needs of their constituents.
Mark Hitchman, Managing Director at Canon Medical Systems Europe said about the visits “This was a great opportunity to convey to local parliamentarians both the scale of opportunity to support our industry in our endeavours to support the NHS, and help government deliver on their promises and objectives.”
AXREM Chief Executive Officer, Sally Edgington commented: “These visits exemplify the power of collaboration between industry and policymakers. By bringing MPs to the heart of innovation and community care, we’re not only informing national strategy, we’re shaping it. We’re grateful to Peter Lamb and Clive Betts for their engagement and commitment to driving forward meaningful change.”
AXREM will continue to champion the voice of the imaging sector, ensuring that industry expertise informs policy and that innovation remains at the core of NHS transformation.
