Following the AXREM UKIO Virtual Awards event hosted by Bill Turnbull, journalist and television presenter, Sally Edgington AXREM Director has been busy ensuring all winners and those commended receive their awards promptly.

The first award to be presented in person was to Industry Individual who went above and beyond during COVID sponsored by Hulbert Imaging, awarded to Adam Llewellyn, MES Supervisor from Siemens Healthineers, who is based at Worcester Royal Hospital.

When presenting this award during the virtual event Bill Turnbull explained that the pandemic tested industry who had to deliver large quantities of equipment in the shortest possible timescales. This often meant working around the clock to provide this life saving diagnostic equipment. This enabled NHS colleagues and professionals to be able to diagnose and treat the sickest of COVID patients. AXREM members also found quick solutions for those able to work from home so they could continue to do their vital roles.

On announcing Adam as the winner, Bill Turnbull explained the reason he had won the award was because he has been described as the sort of person you only meet once in a lifetime, When the pandemic struck, Adam thought on his feet, identifying equipment that could be used on the Aconbury ward when new medical devices would not arrive in time. This included relocating and commissioning devices from other hospitals within the county including dialysis machines, anaesthetic machines, ventilators, and blood pressure monitors. This enabled the customer to provide additional capacity in super-fast time. When a large supply of devices was donated to the Trust, Adam and his team worked through the weekend to test the devices and ensure they were ready for use.

Upon being presented with the award Adam Llewellyn said “Thank you AXREM for the award & Hulbert Imaging for sponsoring it. It has been a tough year for everyone and with all the work we have done during this pandemic, it is absolutely amazing to receive this incredible award and one I will not forget. To say this has made my day would be an understatement, it’s made my year! Thank you so much”.

AXREM Director, Sally Edgington said “I am so proud of the industry I am lucky enough to represent on a daily basis, the industry really did pull together during the pandemic and ensured they delivered high volumes of equipment and support services in short timescales, and Adam is a great example of the dedication shown by our industry. I feel honoured to present Adam with his award and meet the team he works with at Worcester hospital”.

Tony Hulbert, Director of HULBERT Imaging who sponsored the award said “As a company focussed on service and support we know only too well, the trials that have been faced whilst supporting front-line health teams, who themselves have faced enormous challenges over the past 18 months. Maintaining uptime expectations ensures that clinical teams can continue to deliver on their vital work. Sponsoring this award has given us an opportunity to express the great respect we have for everyone who delivers beyond those expectations, in spite of the ongoing pandemic.”
