COCIR is the European Trade Association representing the medical imaging, radiotherapy, health ICT and electromedical industries. Founded in 1959, COCIR is a non-profit association headquartered in Brussels (Belgium) with a China Desk based in Beijing since 2007.

The event was held over 2 days at Autoworld in Brussels and it was clear from the start of the event was a significant anniversary this is for the association. Upon arrival the ceiling of this magnificent building was lit in COCIR’s corporate colour of orange, the Gala dinner was served amongst the amazing selection of cars within the museum.  At the event COCIR General Secretary Nicole Denjoy welcomes guests and this was followed by a formal welcome by COCIR president Jan Kimpen who spoke about the successes of the association and the future.

The event attracted keynote speakers from the European Commission as well as Koen Kas who is a healthcare futurist and the theme was around innovation in the sector. Sally Edgington said “it was a great event and I particularly likes the banners going through the decades showing just how far innovation has come, in many areas this has been led by AXREM members in the UK, so I was proud to represent AXREM at this event and celebrate a fantastic achievement”. Sally went onto say “In the current climate membership of Trade Associations isn’t always a priority so to be celebrating 60 years is a big achievement and is credit to the fantastic work done by COCIR”.

On the second day the focus of keynote speakers continues the theme with research and development and value in health, digital health and artificial intelligence, law, regulations and standards, the circular economy and global sustainability.

COCIR also used the celebrations to launch a new paper ‘European Health Data Space’ and talks about how the advances of new technologies and enhanced connectivity has seen a growth of health data, the document details why the healthcare sector need access to data, who should share it, how data can be made available and importantly how we can reach a European health data space. COCIR recommends that funds are mobilised, that there is more investment in pan-European technical infrastructure and that a clear framework is created with clear governance.
