The inaugural AXREM UKIO Virtual Awards event took place in June hosted by Bill Turnbull, journalist, and television presenter. The worthy winner of the award was announced as Amanda Rutherford, Clinical Services Manager for Imaging at BMI Healthcare in Aberdeen. It was not possible for the award to be presented in person, but Amanda’s colleagues joined her in a presentation to celebrate the award and she is pictured with Julie Mulliner, Director of Clinical Services and Agnes Sloey, Executive Director.

The diversity and inclusion award are designed to recognise an individual, team or department initiating and leading to remove barriers, improving experience and engagement levels to create an environment where individuals feel a sense of belonging, can be their authentic selves, and feel that they have a voice in their teams and departments or demonstrating excellence in the delivery of services. The award winner certainly did the above

When Bill Turnbull announced the winner, he said “they are the clinical lead for imaging and has ensured corporately she has a voice involved with the production and implementation of processes that ensure inclusion across the gay, trans and bi communities. This person is passionate about ensuring the company staff and patient documentation reflects the diverse society that are treated at the hospital. The winner has Produced and implemented a document that ensures no trans male would ever risk undergoing a general anaesthetic without ensuring they are not pregnant, reviewed and guided the team to ensure documentation and processes have been inclusive. They have also raised equality and diversity across discussions, teaching and educating those around them the effect decisions taken could have on diversity and inclusion”.

Upon being presented with the award Amanda Rutherford said “I was absolutely delighted to have been nominated for this award and humbled to have won! It was so lovely for the work to be recognised but more than that it has been a great motivator to keep pushing for change. The team locally and corporately have been so supportive and winning the award has opened more doors for me to work with HR, keeping that important focus on equality, diversity, and inclusion. A huge thank you to you and the team at AXREM and GE for the very kind and generous amazon gift card too! Our Executive Director also gave me a lovely bottle of champagne to celebrate so it’s really been a lovely experience”.

AXREM Director, Sally Edgington said “The work that Amanda has done has clearly made a difference to patients experiences and the role she has taken on to educate her colleagues will ensure that all patients received the respect, dignity and care they deserve”.
