AXREM are pleased to announce that we will be hosting a debate at the BMUS Annual Scientific Meeting on 8th December from 7pm.

The Scientific meeting will be a virtual event and runs from 29 November-10 December 2021, Online. The preliminary programme for the virtual meeting has now been published and you can find out more here: 0051_call_for_papers_PROOF_4.pdf (bmus.org)

The AXREM debate will discuss the need to Transform Diagnostic Services Delivery in the NHS would be discussed. In particular the need to provide more Community based Diagnostic facilities, closer to patient’s homes, away from acute hospitals and in line with the NHS Long Term Plan and the recent Report “Recovery and Renewal – Report of the Independent Review of Diagnostic Services for NHS England”. Overarching all these discussions will be discussions around the important role that ultrasound will play in these hubs.

The debate will be hosted/ chaired by Lord Chris Rennard and confirmed panel members for the debate include Professor Sir Mike Richards who was commissioned to undertake a review of NHS diagnostics capacity (NHS Long Term Plan). The independent report, Diagnostics: Recovery and Renewal, recommends the need for a new diagnostics model, where more facilities are created in free standing locations away from main hospital sites, including on the high street and in retail locations, providing quicker and easier access to tests to a range of tests on the same day, supporting earlier diagnosis, greater convenience to patients and the drive to reduce health inequalities.

The debate panel will also feature representatives from BMUS & AXREM and other panel members will be reveled in due course so please do keep up to date with all the latest news regarding this event here: The role of ultrasound in community diagnostic hubs AXREM debate – AXREM

Sally Edgington AXREM Director said when announcing this event “AXREM have worked more closely with BMUS for the last 2 years on some special projects, our AXREM Ultrasound Special Focus Group are a proactive group and this is a great opportunity for the two organisations to come together and discuss this important topic. Making diagnostics more accessible to patients is high on the agenda and ultrasound really does have an important role to play, so I am looking forward to seeing how the debate develops and the input via questions we get from the audience”.
