AXREM supports first National MedTech Hackathon bringing together the next generation of healthcare innovators
15 October 2026
AXREM is supporting the inaugural National MedTech Hackathon, taking place on 14 November 2026 in Manchester, bringing together undergraduate engineers, clinicians and designers from across the UK to tackle real NHS challenges through hands-on innovation.
The one-day event will give participants the opportunity to move beyond ideas and build working healthcare technology in response to real-world clinical problem statements. Teams will have 11 hours to develop their solutions, supported by experienced clinical and industry mentors, before pitching their prototypes to a panel of clinicians, founders and investors.
The hackathon is built around three key challenges: Detect, Prevent and Respond, with teams asked to consider how technology can identify problems earlier, turn existing risk information into meaningful action and improve critical points in the patient pathway.
With the event being organised by a team of medical students and supported by mentors from across healthcare, technology and innovation, the day is designed to give participants an insight into what it takes to develop technology that can work in the real world. Judging will consider clinical usefulness, build quality, impact, feasibility, innovation, user-centred design and safety.
AXREM is supporting the event as a Supporting Partner, recognising the importance of encouraging collaboration between the next generation of innovators and the healthcare technology industry.
Sally Edgington, CEO of AXREM, said:
“AXREM is delighted to be supporting the first National MedTech Hackathon. Events like this create a fantastic opportunity to bring together fresh ideas, clinical insight and the next generation of healthcare innovators. Giving students the chance to work on real NHS challenges and develop practical solutions is exactly the kind of collaboration that can help shape the future of healthcare technology. We’re excited to see what the teams come up with and to support an event that puts innovation, collaboration and real-world impact at its heart.”
Prof. Ram Senasi, Consultant Radiologist and Clinical Director at Fujifilm, said:
“The future of healthcare won’t be shaped by technology alone; it will be shaped by the people brave enough to question how we do things today. This Hackathon is about giving the next generation of clinicians, engineers, designers and entrepreneurs the opportunity to work together on real healthcare problems and, importantly, to build something that could make a difference. Having AXREM and the wider MedTech community behind them sends a powerful message: we don’t just want young people to inherit the future of healthcare — we want to give them a seat at the table in creating it.”
The National MedTech Hackathon takes place on 14 November 2026 in Manchester, running from 8am to 7pm. The event will culminate in the announcement of the winning teams, with internships among the opportunities available to successful participants.
