AXREM Publishes Strategic Priorities 2025-27 and is calling upon the NHS & Government to Engage with our Industry and Expertise

ONE NHS…ONE HEALTHTECH VOICE

AXREM is the UK trade association representing the interests of suppliers of diagnostic medical imaging, radiotherapy, healthcare IT and care equipment including patient monitoring in the UK.

The release of our strategic priorities 2025-27, will be marked with a parliamentary reception in the Houses of Parliament where we will be joined by 200 members, key stakeholders from our community and cross party parliamentarians. We are also delighted that the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health, Baroness Merron will be joining us and delivering a keynote speech.

AXREM is proud to be able to advise with a balanced, vendor neutrality built on years of industrial experiences. We shape our own industry, we listen to patients and the health service and suggest new cutting-edge solutions, more efficient workflows which lead to better outcomes for both patients and the health service.

Our members build and support new ways of working and new treatment, while standardising common practices (e.g. IT Policies, Cyber Security, Sustainability) with patient safety and outcome-based solutions being the priority.

AXREM PRIORITIES 2025-2027 are:

  • Patient safety first and foremost
  • Technology to Influence Patient Outcomes
  • Aligning with NHS Priorities – Reducing waiting times, Early Diagnosis, Efficient treatments & workflow
  • Influencing future healthcare
  • Increasing our visibility and government engagement – to help Government shape policies to deliver the best healthcare
  • Delivering a Sustainable Future
  • Working together to secure against and respond to Cyber Attacks

AXREM has a number of resulting actions from the strategic priorities:

WE CALL UPON the NHS to draw from the extensive expertise of our members to help shape policies and priorities to deliver the best patient outcomes – especially in diagnostics and therapeutics as this has a direct impact on waiting times and patient outcomes.

WE CALL UPON the NHS to work with industry to understand all the touchpoints within their organisation and how these interconnected systems manage workflows and specifically how these affect patient care.

WE CALL UPON the NHS to engage with the industry at the earliest opportunity, on the development of a pragmatic, and cost effective, approach to product carbon foot printing, that can be applied efficiently by both small and large MedTech device manufacturers.

WE CALL UPON the NHS to ensure Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive Alignment with European and global CSRD practises, we see this as crucial for the UK, to ensure consistency and comparability in sustainability reporting.

WE CALL UPON the government to have an NHS cyber security minister and for this to be part of the UK Defence to ensure the NHS and patient data is safe and is prepared for any threats and cyber-attacks.

The Strategic Priorities has also been endorsed by Tim Farron, Member of Parliament and he said “Many of the issues I hear about on the doorstep from my constituents are the result of the challenges AXREM highlight in their priorities – cancer waiting times and slow diagnoses in particular. The healthcare industry must work together to develop the technology we need and to get it where we

need it. It is so important that we plan long term solutions for long term problems, so I endorse these priorities”.

Jeevan Gunaratnam, AXREM Chair and Head of Government Affairs/ Independent Sector at Philips said upon the release “Speaking at the time of the launch, AXREM Chair and Head of Government Affairs with Philips, Jeevan Gunaratnam said, “Given the opportunity for technology to have a positive impact on public health and communities, it is important for our sector to lead the response to some of the challenges facing the NHS and other health providers, through the publication of our Strategic Priorities document.  Sustainable procurement and cybersecurity are examples of some of the areas identified where AXREM members can make a difference in supporting Government and key stakeholders meet healthcare’s key challenges – and ultimately improve patient outcomes.”

Huw Shurmer, AXREM Vice Chair and Strategic and Government Relationship Manager at Fujifilm Healthcare UK said “This Strategic Priorities document is a brilliant example of how the medical imaging industry has come together, as one strong voice to address the pressures facing the health service. I’m proud to be part of this and encouraged to see how AXREM has coordinated competitive organisations, to share common principles”.

Sally Edgington, AXREM Chief Executive Officer said “I am really proud to see AXREM flourish over the last 5 years, the release of our strategic priorities is another step, to continuing to build upon our work, our presence and engagement with members and external organisations. I look forward to working with the NHS, Government and other organisations to deliver priorities over the next couple of years”.
