AXREM first MedTech UK Trade Association to offer members Value Based Procurement e-learning
11 February 2025
Value Based Procurement has been talked about across the Medtech industry, the NHS and international health systems for many years. In 2019, NHS Supply Chain initiated a project to prove if the approach could drive value for the NHS in terms of improved patient care, increased efficiency, reduced cost and help support the environment agenda. The good news is that this work has now led to a value based approach to procurement gaining traction in the English NHS.
- NHS Supply are committed the adoption of Value Based Procurement and have established a comprehensive programme of activity across the categories under their control.
- Value Based Procurement is a key strand the Department for Health and Social Care MedTech strategy and are committed to creating a national standard methodology for the evaluation of “Value”.
- In January 25 the DHSC and NHSE published a report “Reforming elective care for patients”, with independent analysis suggesting that Value Based approach to procurement has an integral role to play in the achievement of the Governments objectives to improve patient access and care to the NHS.
AXREM are pleased to announce that they are working in partnership with Luach Consulting Group (LCG) and its CEO Brian Mangan who has been developing, promoting and leading VBP within the NHS and across industry for the past 10 years.
LCG have produced an e-learning course “Selling Value in Healthcare” which has been designed to give Medtech suppliers a foundational understanding of Value Based Procurement and how it can be applied in practice to support your organisation in selling value in healthcare.
“I found the course to be both informative and practically useful plus the concise modules allowed one to work through the content in a timely fashion. In outlining the expectations of the different stakeholders and providing useful structures on what a commercial organisation should prepare really simplified matters. I believe the content will be useful to both SMEs and large organisations in outlining how to approach the NHS and what is likely to have the most impact “ Senior Leader of a Global Medical Device company
Melanie Johnson, AXREM Membership Engagement Manager who has completed the e-learning said “The course was informative and insightful, with well-organised modules. The clear breakdown of stakeholder expectations, along with guidance for what a commercial organisation should focus on, made the concepts much more manageable. I’m confident this content will be invaluable to all of our members”.
Sally Edgington, AXREM Chief Executive Officer said “with an increased focus on Value Based Procurement it is AXREM’s role to ensure our members are kept at the forefront of the evolving health system, offering our members this e-learning opportunity ill ensure they have the best knowledge to be able to implement value based procurement methodology in everything they do”.
Brian Mangan, Luach Consulting Group CEO commented “LCG very much appreciates the opportunity to work in partnership with AXREM to support its members transitioning to a value based approach to procurement”
