AXREM Launch Sustainability Special Focus Group

Share

AXREM held a Sustainability Conference in November last year which saw over 40 members from 16 of our members companies participate, we also welcomed guest speakers from NHS Supply Chain & NHS England & Improvement. In December AXREM had an Executive Committee strategy afternoon where we discussed the associations key priorities for the next 18 months to 2 years and members decided that sustainability is one of those priorities.

Subsequently we have worked with members and established a Sustainability SFG, with many of our member participating. This is a forum open to all AXREM members giving them a forum to engage with NHS England & Improvement and NHS Supply Chain discussing the latest news in relation to the NHS net zero target. Over 60% of the total NHS Carbon Footprint sits within the NHS supply chain, so reducing supply chain emissions will be crucial to reaching net zero by 2045. This target includes emissions from freight, the manufacturing of goods, catering, business services and construction.

The inaugural meeting took place on the morning of Tuesday 26th April and saw over 20 members from across our membership virtually attending. We welcomed Lisa Dittmar, Net Zero and Sustainable Supply Chain Lead from NHS England & Improvement and Martin Toomey, Sustainability Manager from NHS Supply Chain who were able to update members on the NHS road map and other developments and key dates.

Chris Taylor, Convenor of the AXREM Sustainability group (Philips UKI) said ”Today’s inaugural meeting of the AXREM sustainability focus group, was a great mix of knowledge, passion and enthusiasm, on what must be, the most vital challenge facing our industry.

There are no Individual winners when we talk about social value and climate change. It is truly a priority for the industry and one that the focus group recognises and supports the need to unite and collaborate on and ultimately find tangible solutions to this health emergency.

Today’s AXREM meeting has started our industry on a new path. One granted with lots of questions and challengers, but overall, a commitment from all, to work together in finding a solution and workflows that will accelerate the transition of our industry and ultimately support the Net zero and social value goals of the NHS and Private sector.

Sally Edgington, AXREM Director said “with the NHS’s ambitions to be net zero this is an important group for AXREM members, to ensure members clearly understand the road map and a forum where we can support members through this transition. AXREM have made a commitment prioritising sustainability and in our support of the recently published ‘Accelerating the transition towards a net zero NHS’ report published by Philips UKI & Exeter University. I am excited to see how we can develop this group and what useful tools and resources we can produce and provide our membership with”.

Note:

AXREM’s member companies supply most of the diagnostic medical imaging and radiotherapy equipment installed in UK hospitals. They work with Consultant Radiologists, Radiographers and Practitioners, Oncologists, and a wide range of healthcare professionals in delivering healthcare to patients using our technologies.

Our members have unique knowledge, experience and insight into the workflow and challenges faced by healthcare professionals on a day-to-day basis, which enables us to develop and offer innovative solutions to improve the speed and quality of diagnostic procedures and treatments with our ultimate aim of improving patient care.

Although our members operate in a highly competitive commercial environment and in strict conformity with UK laws and regulations, certain issues such as this require focus and resolution on an industry-wide basis.
