AXREM Kicks Off the Million Steps Challenge to Support Action for Children
18 June 2025
MedTech Leaders Unite for a Million Steps of Impact
AXREM, the trade association representing the medical imaging and oncology industries in the UK, is proud to launch the Million Steps Challenge, a nationwide initiative inviting healthcare professionals, industry experts, and supporters to walk a collective million steps in one day in aid of Action for Children.
The Millions Steps Challenge will take place on Thursday 4th September when AXREM members will lace up their walking shoes and embark on this inspiring journey, demonstrating their commitment to community, health, and charitable giving. Every step taken will raise vital funds to support Action for Children in its mission to ensure vulnerable children and families receive the care and resources they need.
Sally Edgington, AXREM Chief Executive Officer, expressed enthusiasm for the event: “Healthcare innovation isn’t just about technology, it’s about making a tangible difference in people’s lives. The Million Steps Challenge brings our industry and community together for a cause that extends beyond our work, supporting young people who need our help the most. Having been a voluntary fundraising since I was a teenager it is great to be able to bring my passion and enthusiasm into my work with this event that we are hoping will become our biggest annual fundraiser”
AXREM Chairman Huw Shurmer said “This initiative is a powerful reminder of how the industry can unite not just to raise vital funds for a meaningful cause, but also to champion health and wellbeing within our organisations, supporting the incredible individuals who drive innovation and excellence every day.”
Head of Corporate Partnerships at Action for Children, Fiona Wolstenholme. “I am delighted that AXREM have created this exciting and unique challenge event in support of Action for Children. Every step taken will help raise vital funds to support Action for Children, whose vision is for every child and young person to have a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive. Thank you so much to all those taking part, your support is invaluable. Good luck!”.
Participants can register and track their steps individually or as part of a team, taking to the streets, parks, and workplaces to accumulate their million steps. Whether it’s a lunchtime walk or an evening hike, every stride contributes to lasting change.
AXREM encourages professionals across the medical imaging and radiotherapy sectors, as well as partner organisations and supporters, to join the movement and make each step count.

Note: About AXREM
AXREM members supply the majority of diagnostic medical imaging and radiotherapy equipment installed in UK hospitals. In doing so, our member companies and their employees work side by side with Radiologists, Radiographers, Practitioners, Oncologists and a wide range of healthcare professionals in delivering healthcare to patients using our technologies.
Our members therefore have unique knowledge, experience and insight into the workflow and challenges faced by healthcare professionals on a day-to-day basis, which enables us to develop and offer innovative solutions to improve the speed and quality of diagnostic procedures and treatments with our ultimate aim of improving patient care.
Although our members operate in a highly competitive commercial environment and in strict conformity with UK laws and regulations, certain issues such as this require focus and resolution on an industry-wide basis.
