AXREM were honoured and proud to have hosted a virtual awards event at this year’s UK Imaging & Oncology Congress (UKIO), the largest multidisciplinary imaging and oncology conference in the UK. On the evening of Wednesday 23rd June industry and NHS colleagues gathered virtually to celebrate. The event started with an introduction from AXREM Chair, Ila Dobson who was pleased that so many people were able to join the event live and celebrate the most talented superstars of our industry.

Attendees were then shown a new AXREM video showcasing the work of the association (now available on social media), before Ila Dobson welcomed the host for the event, well known broadcaster and journalist, Bill Turnbull.

In November 2019, Bill Turnbull: Staying Alive, aired on Channel 4; the authored documentary followed Bill’s investigation into potential cures and remedies for prostate cancer. The documentary gained huge media attention and praise for Bill’s emotionally honest coverage of his own diagnosis. After going public during his appearance on Channel 4’s Celebrity Bake Off, Bill made a film for Stand Up 2 Cancer that subsequently raised over half a million pounds for charity, he has since gone on to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer research.

During the event Bill Turnbull spoke openly about his cancer treatment and the effect this has on his life and family. He also spoke about his appearance on Strictly come Dancing and his time on BBC breakfast.

The focus and most important part of the evening was celebrating the people that work in our industry, often making sacrifices personally and going above and beyond what is expected of them on a daily basis. Nominations were open and received from industry colleagues and clinical professionals working in the NHS and private sectors. Ila Dobson said in her welcome “that the standard for all the nominees was outstanding, every one of them achieving high praise from their companies, colleagues, and departments for their great work and achievements”.

The hope is that we can replace the AXREM dinner to become an Awards Dinner and we can grow upon the events success. I would urge anyone working within in industry and the NHS to look out for more information regarding the 2022 event and nominations”.

Ila Dobson, AXREM Chair said “What a fantastic evening celebrating the great achievements from our NHS. May I thank UKIO for allowing us the platform to host the event and working collaboratively with AXREM to bring the event to the imaging community. I must also thank all the people that nominated and were nominees, and finally I congratulate the winners and highly commended individuals who are fantastic examples from the very many people who operate diligently to provide the best care and outcomes for our patients. This event has highlighted the superb healthcare service our NHS delivers and that AXREM members support”.
