Autumn Budget Statement from AXREM Imaging IT Special Focus Group

AXREM welcomes the Autumn Budget delivered by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, highlighting the Government’s £1.5bn will be invested into new beds across our country, along with more capacity for over a million additional diagnostic tests, surgical hubs and diagnostic centres, all part of the Government’s 10-year plan to rebuild the NHS.
Whilst acknowledging there are other issues to be addressed, it’s essential that funding addresses not only equipment but also the costs associated with integrating these technologies into current PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) and RIS (Radiology Information Systems) infrastructure. Without robust integration, the potential of these investments may be undermined by workflow inefficiencies, which could impact radiologist reporting speed and quality. Additionally, AI capabilities should be built into these workflows to support radiologists in delivering faster and more precise diagnostics, thus maximising the impact of new equipment on patient care.
AXREM also stresses that integrated solutions must meet rigorous standards in cybersecurity, with budgets allocated for consistent updates and secure platforms. Investing in these areas is essential to avoid reliance on outdated systems and to protect NHS infrastructure against evolving security threats.
