Ultrasound Collaboration Manifesto
08 June 2026
The Collaborative Ultrasound Manifesto is a joint publication from AXREM, the British Institute of Radiology (BIR), the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS), the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), and the Society of Radiographers (SoR).
Bringing together expertise from across the ultrasound community, the manifesto highlights the key challenges facing ultrasound services, including workforce shortages, skills development, equipment management, quality assurance, and the safe adoption of innovation. It sets out a series of practical recommendations and calls to action aimed at ensuring sustainable, high-quality, and equitable ultrasound services for patients across the UK.
The document calls on healthcare leaders, policymakers, professional bodies, and service providers to work together to strengthen the workforce, invest in training and equipment, improve governance, and support the safe integration of new technologies to secure the future of ultrasound services.
