Key considerations for Ultrasound Transducer Repairs

Transducers are an integral component of an ultrasound system. Basic transducer technology is well understood and is essentially the same across major manufacturers, commonly referred to as Original Equipment Manufacturers or OEMs. However, the OEM’s on-going innovation in transducer design increases the complexity of manufacturing and repairing an ultrasound transducer.
The transducer represents a substantial investment in the overall ultrasound solution. There are several points that should be considered to ensure continued image quality, patient safety, and diagnostic confidence when deciding about a transducer repair strategy.
While it may appear that transducer construction is a simple assembly of a few components, it is in fact intensive, requiring significant investment in facilities and equipment to maintain a high quality manufacturing process. Understanding the purpose of each component of a transducer is important. It is also important to understand the consequences if these components are not repaired correctly.
The technical paper, accessible from the following link, identifies the questions that should be asked when considering a transducer repair strategy.
