AXREM Members Smash Step Challenge

1million steps challenge

Over 2 Million Steps Walked and Over £3,789 Raised

Over 150 participants from 22 AXREM member companies took part in AXREM’s Millions Step Challenge, championing wellbeing, community, and charitable impact.

AXREM’s Inaugural Millions Step Challenge took place last week with extraordinary energy and participation, as over 150 individuals from 22 member companies laced up their walking shoes and collectively walked more than 2 million steps in one day, doubling the original target of 1 million.

The challenge, designed to promote physical wellbeing and sector-wide camaraderie, culminated in a scenic group walk through the Cotswolds, where over 20 members joined forces to cover more than 5 miles together. The walk was made even more meaningful by the presence of a representative from Action for Children, highlighting the charitable spirit at the heart of the initiative.

Among the many enthusiastic participants, one standout contributor stole the show: Irina Wade from Qure.ai, who clocked over an incredible 72,000 steps in a single day, earning well-deserved recognition as our Star of the Challenge.

The event wasn’t just a physical triumph, it was a philanthropic one too. The challenge has so far raised over £3,789, bringing AXREM’s Charity of the Year total to an inspiring £8,215. These funds will help support vital work by Action for Children, making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable young people across the UK.

AXREM Chief Executive Officer Sally Edgington said:

“This challenge was more than just a step count, it was a celebration of community, wellbeing, and purpose. Seeing our members come together, support one another, and exceed expectations was truly inspiring. We’re proud to walk alongside organisations like Action for Children and grateful to every participant who made this a success.”

The Millions Step Challenge will become an annual event and will continue to grow as a symbol of AXREM’s commitment to member wellbeing, sector unity, and social responsibility. Plans are already underway to make next year’s event even bigger.

AXREM Chairman, Huw Shurmer said

“The Millions Step Challenge is a shining example of what makes AXREM so special, our ability to come together across companies, roles, and regions to support one another and make a real difference. Walking over 2 million steps and raising more than £3,789 for Action for Children is a phenomenal achievement, and it reflects the heart and commitment of our members. I’m especially proud of the camaraderie shown during the Cotswolds walk and I was inspired by individuals like Irina Wade, whose dedication truly stood out. This challenge not only promotes wellbeing, but also strengthens the bonds that make our sector resilient, compassionate, and forward-thinking.”
