AXREM & BHTA Unite the MedTech Community at “The Future of MedTech – Innovating for Tomorrow” Conference
21 May 2025
AXREM and The British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) successfully hosted The Future of MedTech – Innovating for Tomorrow, bringing together over 80 members and key stakeholders from across the MedTech community. The conference highlighted the power of collaboration, showcasing how unity across sectors can drive innovation, address industry challenges, and shape the future of healthcare technology.
With AXREM and BHTA collectively representing over 500 companies across multiple sectors, convening such a diverse membership was no small feat. However, the event demonstrated the shared priorities and vision across the industry, reinforcing the value that cross-sector collaboration brings to the MedTech landscape.
Exploring Critical Industry Topics
The day featured insightful discussions on key challenges and opportunities facing MedTech, including:
- Building a Sustainable Future Through Responsible Procurement, featuring speakers from NHSE, DHSC, and Philips.
- The Economic and Political Landscape, with insights from Tendo and Make UK.
- Regulation in the MedTech Sphere, with contributions from MHRA and NICE.
- Big Picture: The Future Policy Landscape for MedTech, featuring voices from OLS, DHSC, and NHSE.
A standout moment of the day was a video address from Baroness Gillian Merron, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department of Health and Social Care. She underscored the importance of the MedTech industry, which supports 154,000 jobs across 44,000 businesses, while also discussing Value Based Procurement, barriers to innovation, and the upcoming 10-Year Plan, set for publication in June.
Leadership Reflections
Sally Edgington, Chief Executive Officer of AXREM, emphasised the conference’s overarching message: “The Future of MedTech – Innovating for Tomorrow” is more than just a theme, it’s a call to action. Today, we’ve seen how innovation is not just about technology, but about collaboration, vision, and a shared commitment to improving lives”.
David Stockdale, Chief Executive Officer of BHTA, said: “The joint conference offered both of our members an invaluable opportunity to hear directly from key industry leaders about the future landscape of the MedTech sector. The insights shared throughout the day will help member companies to work more closely with the NHS, DHSC and MHRA to improve patient outcomes. Innovation is about collaboration, and it’s through forums such as these that we empower our members to continue delivering vital life-changing solutions.”
Looking Ahead
This successful event would not have been possible without the support of headline sponsors Verlingue UK (BHTA) and Highland Marketing (AXREM).
Building on this momentum, AXREM and BHTA will continue working closely together through joint webinars, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory collaboration, ensuring lasting benefits for the MedTech community.
ENDS
Note:
AXREM members supply the majority of diagnostic medical imaging and radiotherapy equipment installed in UK hospitals. In doing so, our member companies and their employees work side by side with Radiologists, Radiographers, Practitioners, Oncologists and a wide range of healthcare professionals in delivering healthcare to patients using our technologies.
Our members therefore have unique knowledge, experience and insight into the workflow and challenges faced by healthcare professionals on a day-to-day basis, which enables us to develop and offer innovative solutions to improve the speed and quality of diagnostic procedures and treatments with our ultimate aim of improving patient care.
Although our members operate in a highly competitive commercial environment and in strict conformity with UK laws and regulations, certain issues such as this require focus and resolution on an industry-wide basis.
