AXREM Appoints New Radiotherapy Convenor

AXREM are pleased to announce that David Kynaston, Regional Sales Manager UK & Ireland – Radiation Oncology at Brainlab has been appointed as the new AXREM Radiotherapy Special Focus Group Convenor. The announcement comes as Daniel Baines, Country Manager UK & Ireland, Elekta Ltd completes his full term as convenor.

Our Radiotherapy Special Focus Group is a proactive group who have been working very closely with many National cancer charities and Radiotherapy UK and the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Radiotherapy which is chaired by MP Tim Farron.

New Convenor, David Kynaston started his career in MedTech just over 8 years ago joining Philips as an imaging account manager. David covered a range of diagnostic and interventional equipment as well as their radiation oncology portfolio which gave him a very diverse view of a large segment of healthcare. One of David’s first big projects was with The Christie Hospital in Manchester, where construction of the new proton beam therapy centre had begun and the evaluation of technology was about to start.

As David was new to healthcare at the time, a couple of hospitals kindly offered for David to spend a little time in the departments to understand more about their workflows and also the challenges that they face. The Christie was one of these centres that invited him in to the department with the team so that he could really see firsthand some of the key differences between diagnostics and therapy. David  got to see mould room, pre-treatment scanning, planning and treatment delivery over a couple of days which really raised his awareness and interest in radiotherapy.

A number of years later David got the opportunity to join Brainlab as the UK&I Manager for the radiation oncology business. This really focused David’s area of knowledge to a quite specific area of radiotherapy and gave him considerably more information and detail around these treatments. Whilst at Brainlab, the portfolio has expanded to cover a broad range of radiotherapy tools that can have an amazing impact on patients’ lives and excites David around the possibilities for the future.

David Kynaston said upon being appointed to this role “I’m really excited to take on the position as convenor for the Radiotherapy SFG. We have done some amazing work together over the last few years with Dan Baines leading the group and I look forward to continuing this in to the future. Radiotherapy is such a diverse and rapidly evolving treatment option within cancer care, working with AXREM and other leading manufacturers in the sector where we are all striving to deliver a plan, progress and better outcomes for patients is a privilege”.

Sally Edgington, AXREM Chief Executive Officer said “The radiotherapy group has become more diverse and expanded the last few years under Daniels Baines leadership, we have achieved some great things including updating and re-publishing the radiotherapy manifesto. I am looking forward to working with David over the next couple of years to see how we can further engage members, expand the groups work and continue to fly the flag for radiotherapy and ensure all patients have access to this life saving treatment”.

Daniel Baines said about his time as ConvenorI am extremely proud of the AXREM SFG and our achievements over the last two years that I have been lucky enough to convene over. Bringing the SFG group members closer to key cancer charities such as Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission, Macmillan Cancer Support, Brain Tumour org and supporting the great work Radiotherapy UK do helped the group understand the wider cancer care landscape which helped update and relaunch the AXREM RT SFG Manifesto. Sally, Mel and the team have been a delight to work with, the SFG now moves forward with new initiatives for 2025 to support cancer care under David’s leadership, I wish David every success”.
